I’ve often been disappointed by the latest “quick fix” for ongoing issues. Over the years, I’ve tried countless therapeutic tools, and many left me feeling they weren’t worth the time or money. But EFT was different.
I met someone in 2000, who shared a story about using EFT with someone who had experienced a traumatic burglary. The burglars had not only stolen from her but had also destroyed her home. He spoke to her over the phone and she was inconsolable. Yet, after tapping with her, she became noticeably calmer. The next day, she even called to share how she’d started tackling the clean-up. She said she had just go on with it. I was a bit sceptical but I always check things out just in case. Gary Craig was the man who developed the technique and I went onto order his dvds. From that time I have been a big fan of EFT because it is so effective and it’s free!
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called “Tapping,” is a simple, hands-on method for addressing anxiety, stress, and negative emotions. By tapping on specific points on the body, such as the face, collarbone, and underarms, this technique stimulates the body’s meridian pathways. These pathways, integral to traditional Chinese medicine, run symmetrically down both sides of the body and are believed to carry life energy, or “Qi.”
Here’s how Tapping works to relieve anxiety:
Looking inward: Tapping is most effective when you focus intently on the specific feelings of anxiety, stress, or anger. Being “present” with your emotions while Tapping helps access and release these emotions more deeply.
Past and Present Issues: Whether addressing recent stressors or past traumatic events, Tapping can bring relief, allowing the mind and body to release stored tension and anxiety. It is true that the body remembers everything.
Self-Awareness: By using EFT, you gain a clearer understanding of the part of you that feels anxious. Tapping creates space to observe physical sensations tied to anxiety, like a sinking feeling in the stomach or shallow breathing.
Connecting with Emotions: Although it may feel strange at first, Tapping allows you to connect with emotions directly, creating a sense of self-awareness that will foster emotional resilience over time.
As a simple tool that requires only your fingertips and a willingness to tune into your emotions, EFT offers a flexible, non-invasive way to reduce stress and anxiety, making it a valuable method for self-care.
EFT Tapping for Anxiety
EFT can also help with issues of sexual or physical abuse. I would recommend finding a BACP counsellor who works with EFT.
Please also look at the research that has been carried out on the effectiveness of EFT.
Talking therapy helps of course but sometimes we need something more to connect us to our physical bodies.
EFT is invaluable to connect our thinking and physical bodies.
Every negative thought has a reaction in our bodies.
EFT Tapping for Anxiety and Matrix Reimprinting
We cannot change history; it happened.
What we can change is the emotional component of the memory.
Matrix Reimprinting helps us do this by allowing us to shift the emotions attached to past experiences.
All of us have memories that, when recalled, bring up uncomfortable feelings, often shame or embarrassment. Through Matrix Reimprinting, we can revisit these memories and change how we respond to them. While we cannot change what happened, we can change the beliefs and emotions we carry from those experiences.
If those emotions are shame, humiliation, or guilt, we can work with them to find resolution, relief, and understanding.
As children, we don’t understand we may be living in unhealthy environments that can create distorted beliefs about ourselves. These beliefs can continue to influence us in the present making us feel we are not worth very much.

How can EFT ‘Tapping’ help you with anxiety and stress at work?
How often are you at work thinking, “I just can’t cope with this today”?
EFT is a powerful tool in moments when you’re feeling fear, anxiety, sadness, or overwhelmed by your thoughts.
Just a few minutes in a quiet space can help centre and ground you, allowing you to face difficult situations with more ease.
Not only does it reduce anxiety or fear, but it often provides a fresh perspective on a situation.
How can EFT ‘Tapping’ help you with anxiety and stress at home?
Regardless of your age, gender, or situation, tapping can help alleviate stress.
Whenever you feel resentment or anger toward another person, you can tap or massage different points. This gives you a moment to centre yourself, helping you avoid saying something you might regret or escalating an argument.
Tapping reduces the intensity of the emotion, allowing you to stay grounded and express your feelings without losing control.
If you and your partner are struggling to communicate, using EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can help both of you step back and reassess the situation. It can shift your perspective and help you see things from the other person’s point of view.
For Chronic and difficult issues, I advise seeing a BACP counsellor
who uses EFT/Matrix Reimprinting.
